FIR Against Offenders of Polling Station
Election Commission of Pakistan has lodged an FIR against the offender for manhandling A Lady Presiding Officer and other polling staff and interference in the polling process of Gujrat Bye-Elections in the early this year. A copy of FIR, which was lodged in the concerned police station by the presiding officer, was sent to the Chief Secretary, Punjab to look into the matter.
Background of Incident
The incident took place on the polling day at a polling station in constituency No. PP-111 Gujrat-IV, where about 20 illegal men and women entered into the polling station. The group mal-treated the polling staff, including The Lady Presiding Officer, obstructed in the performance of public servants, snatched the official gun from a constable, caused injuries to another police constable after kidnapping him, tore election material and also took away the election material from the polling station. The case remained under investigation with the local police for indefinite period without any progress for tracing out the real culprits.
Latest Updates about Case
Now, Chief Election Commissioner ordered for a judicial inquiry through District and Sessions Judge, Gujrat to fix the responsibility. District and Sessions Judge of Gujrat began the judicial inquiry of this case as per orders of the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court under Pakistan Penal Code and Representation of the People Act, 1976 for resorting violence inside the polling station.
